LOCAL MUSIC AT MEMBERSHIP DINNER
Each spring, the Clay County Historical and Arts Council board and members gather for a potluck, meeting and entertainment. This year’s Membership Dinner will be on Thursday March 22, 2012 at 6pm at the Gathering Place, part of the First United Methodist Church in Hayesville. Please bring a covered dish to share.
The CCHAC's membership year runs from April 2012 to March 2013 so come and join up or renew your membership. There will be a recap of the Council’s activities over the previous year, a look ahead to the coming year's projects and special live entertainment. This year the musicians are again local with the duo of Rob Tiger and Sammy Walker singing and strumming for us.
Influenced by regional Appalachian, folk and rockabilly music, Rob Tiger is well known around these parts for his work with local group, “Irons in the Fire.” This is an opportunity to really hear his music and appreciate his instrumental expertise. Sammy Walker, who credits Bob Dylan, Woody Guthrie and Hank Williams for inspiring him early on, has been on his musical mission since the mid 70s and it has taken him all over the world.
Your support and membership dues are vital to put on events such as the Festival on the Square, the Spring Tour of Homes and Gardens; renovations to the Old Jail Museum and contribute to projects such as the Cherokee Homestead Exhibit. The Historical & Arts Council also funds the Art & Poetry competition held at Hayesville High School each April and brings music and theater performances to Clay County.
This event received support from the North Carolina Arts Council, an agency of the Department of Cultural Resources. The mission of the North Carolina Arts Council is to make North Carolina a better state through the arts. The council nurtures and supports excellence in the arts, and provides opportunities for every North Carolinian to experience the arts. A division of the Department of Cultural Resources (www.ncculture.com), the Arts Council serves as a catalyst for the development of arts organizations and facilities throughout North Carolina with grant funding and technical assistance.
The purpose of the Clay County Historical and Arts Council is to sponsor and encourage cultural education and activities in Clay County and surrounding areas, with particular emphasis upon local history and art.
