April 20, 2019

Dear CCHAC Members and Friends,

Thank you so much for your wonderful support and assistance this past year, and for many of you, thank you for years of support. We are very busy right now and are making a few changes we want to share with you.

The biggest and happiest event is the renovation of the Old Jail Museum. We started this winter and spring replacing windows and the brick and grout that was crumbling. The exterior wood surfaces of the kitchen and doctor's office are being replaced as well.

To honor this we are changing the Membership dinner to an afternoon Cookout and ‚ÄúRestoration Celebration‚ÄĚ of The Old Jail Museum. This will coincide with the Grand Re-opening of the Museum where paintings by Ann Woodford will be the featured exhibit this year. Ann will be speaking about her work this special afternoon and live music will be playing. We would like for all of you to join us. The date will be June 15, 2019, starting at noon till 2 p.m. Watch for additional notices as the time draws near.

We are still supporting students and adults in the community, through North Carolina Arts Council grants, with music on the square, special events in the schools, and adult educational painting and drawing classes, as well as our Native Botanical Garden.

We were able secure donations for the exterior of the museum, and now we are raising funds for the interior renovations. We have an anticipated budget of $25,000 to repair concrete floors, replace treads on the stairs, replace carpet, install much needed storage space, as well as painting and cleaning. We have lost the Moss Grant that supported our Garden expenses which makes your support much more crucial as we plan for all these projects. Your membership renewal form is attached and your response is much appreciated. To assist with the other two areas, the garden or interior renovation for which we need financial help, please make out a separate check designating where you would like it to be used.

With Sincere Appreciation,

Clay County Historical and Arts Council Board

The Clay County Historical and Arts Council receives support from the North Carolina Arts Council, a division of the Department of Natural and Cultural Resources.

You can join at the membership cookout on June 15 or at any other time by printing out and sending in the membership application form.
